🏷️ Description

Why wait for the future when it's already running at 8 MHz?

Back when processors were measured in megahertz, an 8 MHz CPU felt like serious computing power. No gigahertz, no multicore processors, just a little silicon chip working overtime to get the job done.

A nostalgic tribute to the early days of personal computing, when every extra megahertz was worth bragging about and patience was part of the experience.

Because back then, 8 MHz wasn't slow. It was the future.

Behold! my 286.

This was my beast. And I loved it.

PROCESSOR Intel 80286

MEMORY 1 MB RAM
HARD DRIVE 20 MB
My 1991 Intel 286 computer setup at home

With both 5¼-inch and 3½-inch floppy drives, it ran XTree Gold, Lotus 1-2-3 and Windows 3.0. Later, DoubleSpace helped squeeze every last megabyte out of that drive.

I still remember tweaking CONFIG.SYS - adding DOS=HIGH to free up enough conventional memory to get Wolfenstein 3D running.

That fascination never left. I’m still in tech today.

Every RUZE design starts with a memory like this one.
